GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Brown County Sheriff’s Department is once again asking the public’s help in identifying a vehicle that may be involved in door to door driveway scams that have been occurring all over.
Brown County Sheriff Detective Sergeant Zach Holshbach says an elderly couple was scammed into withdrawing a large sum of cash to pay a solicitor that contacted them at their residence in Brown County. He says they claimed that they would seal their blacktop driveway.
“Someone is spraying a thin layer of something on a driveway and claiming that it is a sealant.”
He says it is a scam and has released some photos of a vehicle of interest.
“It has a tunnel cover, two doors, single cab and it appears to a be a 2015 or newer F150.”
Holschbach says they are simply looking for more tips.
“Don’t approach the individual themselves, but just try to get whatever information you can including a license plate, any markings that we could not see or additional descriptions of the vehicle.”
This type of tactic is not new. Holschbach says he has gotten calls about it from all around Wisconsin and in the U.P.
The Better Business Bureau and Department of Consumer Protection have also warned about door to door service scams.
The technique is usually high-pressure sales.
“We are in the area or this is a one time only act now type of pressure”, says Holschbach.
He says that educating the community is also part of his objective.
“Good people are often victimized because they are just trusting.”
Other tips include being a good neighbor, especially if you feel that someone you know might fall for a scam like this or have already become a victim.
If you have any information about the suspects in the surveillance video you’re asked to call the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.
