GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Area police departments are reacting to the horrific events in Texas and Ohio over the weekend and the reality that we can all learn something from the tragedies.
Jedd Bradley is with De Pere PD and offers training for groups and businesses on how best to survive a mass shooting.
“You can’t stop them from doing that. But what you can do is you can dictate the outcome of the event.”
Potential targets can’t sit still. That means confronting the shooter or running to get away from the scene. Chances are, police aren’t going to be there for a few minutes.
Ex-cop Jason Weber teaches public safety at NWTC.
“So every one of these incidents…we look at them, we research them. And we adjust our training towards it.”
Bradley expects he’ll be hearing from a new wave of schools or businesses who want his expertise on how best to respond to an active shooter.
“It takes something bad to push someone to get that training available.”
In addition to his duties at NWTC, Weber also does security evaluations at places like churches.
“We do have a lot of businesses, churches, organizations within Northeast Wisconsin that have been very proactive.”
Both Bradley and Weber believe more people are coming to the reality that mass shootings aren’t just things that happen in other places. Northeast Wisconsin could be the next site.
