ALLOUEZ, WI (WTAQ) – We hear money does not grow on trees, but for one store in Allouez, it appears on floors.
Two times in July, management at Austin’s Grocery Store has found a large sum of cash on the store floor.
Jill Prosser says they have not had any luck finding the owner.
She says on July 12, a wad of money was located on the floor by an employee. Prosser decided to wait to see if anyone would come to claim it.
“In my mind, I thought this person was going to call back within the hour to see if anybody found any money, but nothing happened.”
She then decided to take action by checking the store cameras to see if she could see where the money came from.
She says they used store footage to identify one man who was in the store around the time the money would have been left.
“I asked him, Did you by chance lose anything the other day? No! Did you lose any money? No! This amount of money, you would know you lost.”
Things got really weird when a customer turned in a wad of money on July 27 that they say they found sitting on the floor.
Prosser says one time was strange enough but twice in one month?
“This time it was even more money.”
She says she is convinced that the money was left behind by two different people, but she does not know if it was done intentionally yet.
“Did these people do this on purpose? Then I thought why just drop it there instead of directly helping someone out with it.” She says they will continue to find the owner and if they can’t they will decide what to do with it.
