MOUNTAIN, WI (WTAQ) – A resource center has been established in Oconto County for those impacted by recent storms.
Inside the Mountain Community Center, you’ll find food, water, and cleaning supplies, among other things.
The goal is to help out residents that still have a laundry list of work to accomplish following the devastating storms.
“Everybody was very helpful, very nice, just really nice,” says Becky Kersten of Mountain.
The severe weather may have ripped through the Northwoods over a week ago, but that doesn’t mean the wreckage left behind is a quick fix to take care of.
“I still have logs that have to be split and cleaned up,” she explains.
Oconto County health officer Debbie Konitzer says the county was looking for a central location that would make it easier for everyone to find them.
“We have multiple agencies that are here. We have health and human services so we’re looking at some financial assistance. It could be food assistance. There’s also some counseling so if someone needs emotional support, that can be addressed,” says Konitzer.
The DNR will also be available if you’d like to know what to do with downed or cut up trees.
The Red Cross is handing out free shovels and rakes, while there’s also a disaster kit designed to help residents who might have mold inside their homes.
“Also, all the information that we’re sharing today is also on 2-1-1 so they can call 2-1-1 to ask the question they have and they’re able to look things up for them,” says Konitzer.
The community center will again be open on Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
