MISHICOT, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – “You see pictures of it but until you drive past it and see its 10 feet tall… the root,” Adam Burdsall the General manager of Fox Hills Resort.
A golf cart ride around the Fox Hills Resort in Mishicot shows the extent of the damage from Saturday morning’s storm that swept through in an hour and left days of damage.
“I’m going to say, between 100 and 150, between trees that are totally down and trees that are damaged,” said Burdsall.
The resort’s hotel didn’t get power back until Monday night.
“It was 56 hours where we were in total darkness in the hotel and crippled, basically, electronically,” said Burdsall.
It forced the hotel to turn away hundreds of guests.
“We lost the full weekend all the way through last night in the hotel it was a big hit on business,” said Burdsall.
Staff is working to get the golf course back in working order, but Burdsall says some parts will take longer.
“Our ‘original nine’ that was built in 1964 took heavy, heavy damage to trees. That is going to be a significant amount of time before we have it back open,” said Burdsall.
Homes throughout Mishicot are going through the same thing. Wisconsin Public Service made more rounds throughout the day to restore power to homes. Dozens of yards have trees pulled up at the roots and snapped in half.
“I wanted to cut down that one on the end, well it’s down now,” said Charlie Wilsmann.
Wilsmann is still working to remove debris dumped in his yard by the storm.
“Everything was branches all over the place,” he said.
But thanks to a little help, he’s almost there.
“I had three grandkids over here Sunday all day, and they removed 10 loads, trailer loads, of brush and so that was a help,” said Wilsmann.
