APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – It’s day three of no power for some in the Fox Valley.
“We had called We Energies. They said it could be two to three days, it could be seven days, it could be up to 21 days,” Anthony Wiggins said.
“It’s crazy how long that could take to get the power back on.”The power outage has cost Wiggin’s and his family hundreds of dollars, he said.
“We bought in bulk with our beef. And so we’re losing like $700 dollars worth of beef. You either have to cook it or let it go bad,” Wiggins said.
It’s costing local businesses too. Kwik Trip had about 50 stores lose power. Workers are still tallying up how much food has been lost.
“It’s a good amount. You know obviously you have enough to stay in business for a while, you keep adding to your order,” Kwik Trip Store Leader Ron Hoffmeyer said.
Food isn’t the only cost people are dealing with.
Jim Forester and his wife have been working to clean up their yard since the storm hit. A tree fell on their house and damaged a fence.
“We’re getting to the point now where we’re thinking maybe we should be selling the house and moving into a condo or something where they take care of their own lawn,” Forester said.
Despite all the work, Forester said the community has come together during this difficult time.
“Every one of my neighbors came over yesterday. I’ll bet you we had six different neighbors over here helping me trim down this tree and haul the branches onto the boulevard. It’s a good neighborhood,” Forester said.
