APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Crews from Wisconsin Public Service and WE Energies have been racing around since Friday to get power restored throughout the Fox Valley.
“This is not going to stop. We are going to be working around the clock nonstop until all power is restored,’ says Matt Cullen from the WEC Energy Group. “At this time combined between WE Energies and WPS we have been able to restore power for 190,000 customers that have been impacted by these storms.”
In fact, utility crews from around the Midwest have been called in to help.
To this point, they’ve been able to replace more than 125,000 feet of wire, 3,000 fuses, 100 transformers, and 75 utility poles.
“If there are downed wires and customers see them, stay at least 25 feet away and report them right away,” he explains.
In order to help residents clean up downed trees and debris from their property, the City of Appleton has created a special collection, which is scheduled for July 29.
“What we are going to do is one pass through the city. So that is why we wanted to get that out there so people know they have one chance to get it to the curb or they will have to take it to the waste site themselves,” explains Chad Doran from the City of Appleton.
The city is asking residents to have their debris on the curb by 10 p.m. Sunday, so crews can start cleaning overnight.
“Anything over four inches in diameter we don’t need to bundle up, those bigger pieces can sit on the curb. Anything smaller in diameter we ask that they bundle it with twine or yard waste bags,” he says.
Anyone with additional questions can contact the city, as well as the Appleton Fire and Police Departments.
