GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) -Several rounds of storms on Friday night and Saturday have left flooding, downed trees and downed wires across Northeast Wisconsin.
Law enforcement and firefighters from Green Bay, Outagamie County and Waupaca County said Saturday afternoon that they were out in the community, checking on the damage.
Authorities are asking that people who see wires down — especially if there are fires or arcing electricity — report it to 911. Those who are just without power should not call 911; instead, notify their electrical service provider. In Outagamie County, sheriff’s officials said they have received more than 600 calls, an average of 200 per hour.
Police also say that it may take time to clear roads that are blocked by fallen trees or wires.
Those who see downed trees in Green Bay are asked to do the following:
- Check for wires that may have come down with the tree falling. If there are wires down, please call 911 and stay away from the wires.
- Check to make sure nobody is injured under the tree. This is especially important if the tree fell on a car or house.
- Notify the Green Bay Police Department and Green Bay Metro Fire Department of the downed tree. Please tell the call taker the exact tree’s location, whether any wires are down, whether anyone is hurt and if there is partial or complete blockage of the road.
- Only remove debris from the road if it is safe to do so.
As for flooded roads, police remind drivers not to approach them. The water could be deeper than it appears, and cars can be swept away by fast-moving water.
