SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ) – Despite some schools in the area having the day off today, in Shawano, classes on are with some minor adjustments.Shawano Summer School students will be in class for the final day of Summer School today, but Coordinator Matt Petersen says that time will mostly be spent in the air-conditioning.
“It is going to be up to the teachers if they are going to be going outside or not.”
He says their policy will be much like a cold day in the winter, staying inside and taking advantage of indoor facilities like extra gym space, and if students are outside, he is adopting a rule similar to one that the WIAA uses for High School Athletics.
“Be outside for about 20 minutes and then bring them back inside for 10 minutes.”
He says like always, parents can opt to keep their kids at home if they feel better about that.He adds there is something parents can do to help their kids on hot days like this.
“Send water bottles with your kids and encourage them to drink water throughout the day.”
Green Bay, Appleton and Neenah Districts decided to cancel school today due to the heat.
