DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) – De Pere Police says that a pair of teenagers are in serious trouble due to their bad judgment.
Things could be a lot worse for a pair of teenage boys that wracked up over $8,500 worth of damage earlier this summer after shooting off BB guns around De Pere and Ashwaubenon.
“I mean BB guns nowadays, they look just like a normal gun,” explains Officer Jedd Bradley with the De Pere Police Department. “You’re playing with fire when you do something like this.”
Bradley says both individuals are fortunate that a citizen didn’t mistake them for having a real firearm.
“You know this could be a different story then and a different situation, which would be unfortunate,” he explains.
Earlier today, criminal damage to property charges were referred to the Brown County DA’s office.
18-year-old Carter Madajczyk will face ten misdemeanor counts of criminal damage to property.
Several of the incidents took place between May 29 and May 30, according to the criminal complaint.
“Last week we made the arrests of two individuals that were driving around [and] shooting BB guns out the window into businesses and other vehicles,” says Bradley.
Some of the storefronts were abandoned on Oak Street in De Pere.
Other incidents allegedly included:
- Fox World Travel on June 4
- Furniture Row on June 7
- LeMieux Toyota on June 7
- ATI Physical Therapy on June 7
- Menards on June 11
17-year-old Mason Peeples allegedly was driving for several of the incidents and faces four criminal damage to property charges.
The complaint states that police obtained text messages in which Peeples admitted to his role in the incidents and later described to police what he and Madajczyk did.
The complaints do not quote Madajczyk.
Madajczyk is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on July 23, while Peeples’ first hearing is set for July 30.
