GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Green Bay police say they responded to reports of two people having sex on a playground at Farlin Park Sunday night.
“For a while, they were just swinging on the swings and then they decided to walk on the playground equipment where kids play and they decided to have sex,” said one concerned neighbor.
One resident tells FOX 11 he happened to be sitting on his porch when police were responding to the incident.
“The officer had asked him how old he was and the man said 42. The officer said, ‘really, did you not have any other place to do this?’ I’m just thinking, do these people have no shame?”
But this isn’t the first time something like this has happened at the park. Neighbors said crimes like this happen there all the time.
“Last year a used condom was found on the slide and I was like, great, some kid is going to slide through that tomorrow. There are just a bunch of little things that happen here at the park.”
Some residents said they’re now tired of bringing up their concerns to police, especially when they feel nothing will be done.
“Unfortunately this park is located in a lower-income area and the police don’t patrol the park unless a concerned neighbor physically calls them.”
Lt. Steve Mahoney, with the Green Bay Police Department, tells FOX 11 the department has done a lot to step up patrols in parks around the city, especially when receiving reports of criminal or inappropriate behavior.
“We were unaware that this was a situation at Farlin Park. There is another park in the area that we have a lot of lewd and lascivious issues going on. We monitor that park closely and we now have cameras out there.”
In the Sunday incident, each person was cited for lewd and lascivious behavior, which carries a fine of $500 and up to nine months in jail.
