MANITOWOC COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Two people have been arrested following a high-speed chase in Manitowoc County.
Sheriff’s deputies say they first tried to stop a car on Calumet Avenue in Manitowoc just before 2 a.m on Friday.
According to authorities, the driver then sped off to the west on Calumet Avenue, then got onto Interstate 43 northbound.
Deputies put a tire-deflation device on I-43 near Hwy. 310 and the device successfully popped the front driver’s side tire.
The driver then continued on I-43, before exited onto eastbound Hwy. V (Hillcrest Drive) and turning south on Hwy. R.
Officers then used a second tire-deflation device on Hwy. R, which successfully deflated the rest of the car’s tires.
The driver then allegedly continued south on Hwy. R, back into the City of Manitowoc, before eventually going into the east ditch north of Fleetwood Drive.
During the chase, about 16 miles were covered and speeds reached 115 mph.
According to deputies, the driver attempted to flee on foot and with the help of a police dog, authorities caught up to him in the 1400 block of Lee Circle and made an arrest.
The driver, 36-year-old Christopher Ramirez of Appleton, along with the passenger, 36-year-old Savannah Spencer of Manitowoc, are facing a number of related charges.
Ramirez was jailed on suspicion of fleeing officers, recklessly endangering safety, operating while under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and a probation warrant.
Currently, he’s being held on $2,000 cash bond.
Spencer was also arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia, while she has posted bond and was released.
