GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – One of the men convicted in a Green Bay paper mill murder was released on parole Tuesday.
Rey Moore was one of the men convicted of killing paperworker Tom Monfils in 1992.
Another one of the six men convicted, Michael Johnson, is scheduled to be released on parole Wednesday.
Following Wednesday, only one of the men convicted, Keith Kutska, will remain in prison.
Monfils was found dead in a pulp vat at the then-James River paper mill in Green Bay and more than two years later, following a joint trial, Moore and Johnson were convicted, along with Kutska, Dale Basten, Michael Piaskowski, and Michael Hirn.
Piaskowski’s conviction was overturned by a federal judge, while Basten, who was in failing health, was paroled and died shortly after release.
Hirn has already been released on parole.
A series of events were set into motion after Monfils reported a theft of an extension cord by Kutska.
Prosecutors said that all six men were involved in Monfils’ murder, even though all six continued to maintain their innocence.
