MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Manitowoc’s longest consecutive-serving mayor had a street named after him Saturday.
The dedication took place on what used to be known as a portion of Dewey Street. It’s now called Crawford Boulevard after former mayor Kevin Crawford.
“One of the accomplishments during Mayor Crawford’s tenure was the expansion of the Harbor Town district on the west side of the city toward the interstate. This road was chosen because of Mayor Crawford’s integral leadership in the creation of this area of the city and for his many years of service to the citizens of the City of Manitowoc,” a city spokeswoman said.
He served as the city’s mayor for 20 years.
“It was very humbling to receive the phone call from Mayor Nickels and council president Brey indicating that they wanted to move forward on this street name and it’s just, kind of, this remarkable thing when it’s unexpected,” said Crawford.
