GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Green Bay Police Department says that two people were taken into custody for questioning in connection to a shooting that took place at an Ashwaubenon hotel last week.
A third person got away while they served a search warrant in the 1000 block of Newtols Street Wednesday afternoon, according to the Green Bay Police Department.
“Investigators from both departments [Ashwaubenon Public Safety] were working because they had developed information that they believed that one of the suspects involved in that shooting, and the suspects’ vehicle, were tied to a residence here in the 1000 block of Newtols Street,” says Commander Kevin Warych with Green Bay PD.
Commander Warych says their department received information that one of the suspects involved in the Microtel Inn incident was spotted in front of the home inside of a vehicle.
“That vehicle left the residence and officers conducted a traffic stop, in the area here, and took a person of interest into custody,” he explains.
Shortly afterward, police saw another vehicle leave the residence.
When police attempted to make a traffic stop, the vehicle tried to elude officers.
“The vehicle then quickly pulled off into a parking lot on Eastman Avenue and two people fled from that vehicle,” he says.
At that point, authorities gave chase on foot.
“Officers were able to locate and apprehend one of the two suspects,” explains Commander Warych.
Police do not know the identity of the person that got away or their potential involvement in the shooting.
Officers elicited help in order to maintain the area.
“The Green Bay Police Department SWAT Team was called to clear that residence,” he says. “When the SWAT Team got on scene, a lot of neighbors probably could have heard several announcements.”
Green Bay PD believes that Ashwaubenon Public Safety will release an update on the investigation soon.
Officers believe an altercation sparked the shooting at the hotel on June 13.
In that incident, a man was shot in his torso and taken to the hospital in order to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
