BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Early week road work could impact your daily commute.
In Brown County, work starts later today on the I-41/I-43 System-to-System Interchange Ramp.
Mark Kantola, with the state Department of Transportation, says that crews will be polyjacking bridge approach slabs in order to smooth things out.
“What happens is pavement on the earth actually settles, while the bridge itself is anchored into bedrock, so it doesn’t settle,” says Kantola. “That’s why you feel those little bumps.”
Thankfully, maintenance crews are able to complete their work overnight.
Kantola says the full-closures will take place nightly, from 8 p.m. tonight to 5 a.m., Tuesday, and then again 8 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Another project taking place in Brown County is pavement repairs on northbound WIS 57 at Van Lanen Road.
That effort will close the left lane of traffic from 7 a.m. Monday through 12 p.m. Friday.
While drivers in Oshkosh may have the hardest time this week.
A full closure of the I-41/US45 Interchange Ramp is set for 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
Maintenance crews are repairing pavement in the area and are unable to complete the work overnight.
A detour will be set in place to exit southbound US 45 and use the Fernau Avenue roundabout to head back north on US 45.
Kantola says the stretch of road being repaired isn’t extraordinarily long, but crews will still be out in a significant number and that forces drivers to be aware.
“There are people working in very close proximity to a high-speed highway,” he explains. “So you need to be careful.”
