NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Neenah School District is working five pathways in planning for another referendum after their first attempt failed.
Voters narrowly rejected a $129.5 million referendum, with the single-biggest project in it being $84 million to replace Shattuck Middle School.
The new options range from $238 million to $345 million dollars.
School officials say the pathways should be considered as long-term planning guides, and are not final plans for referendum options.
Pathaway 1: Would budget $302-$332 million dollars. The idea would be to construct a new 5th grade and 6th-grade intermediate school on the west side. It would also allow for an addition and renovation at both Shattuck and the high school.
Pathway 2: Would budget $313-$345 million dollars. The idea would be to construct a new 5th grade and 6th-grade intermediate school on the west side. This option would include a new 7th-grade and 8th-grade school at the Shattuck site and addition and renovation at the high school.
Pathway 3: Would budget $307-$339 million dollars. The idea would be to construct two new 5th-grade through 8th-grade middle schools with one being on the west side and one on the Shattuck site. This pathway would also include addition and renovation at the high school.
Pathway 4: Would budget $301-$332 million dollars . The idea would be to construct two new 6th-grade through 8th-grade middle schools with one being on the west side and one on the Shattuck site. This pathway would also include addition and renovation at the high school.
Pathway 5: Would budget $238-$263 million dollars. The idea would be for a new 9th-grade through 12th-grade high school on the west side and the current high school becomes the 5th-grade through 8th-grade middle school.
With all of the plans, there would be either seven or eight elementary schools instead of the nine the district currently has. The idea would be for Horace Mann to become an elementary location.
Tuesday night is the third meeting School District. The meeting is at 6:00 p.m. at the Administration Building on S. Commerical Street.
There will be three more chances for the public to review the pathways.
Those meetings will be on
- Monday, July 15, 6-8 p.m.
Spring Road Elementary library, 1191 County Road II
- Monday, July 29, 6-8 p.m.
Neenah High School cafeteria, 1275 Tullar Road
- Thursday, Aug. 15, 6-8 p.m.
Neenah Public Library, Shattuck Room, 240 E. Wisconsin Ave.
The content will be identical at all three meetings.
School officials say after those sessions, a survey will be distributed to the community and the school board will decide later in the year on what they will present to the voters.
A referendum is expected to be presented to voters next spring, but it’s yet to be determined what would be included.
