GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Summertime in Green Bay is right around the corner, which means the city is now preparing it’s three pools ahead of the season.
“Summer is always exciting, the weather is turning nice and pool season in the best season,” said Ann Moeller from the Green Bay Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department.
But before the pools can open on June 8th, Moeller tells FOX 11 there’s a lot of work and hiring that needs to be done.
“We are experiencing a pretty severe shortage of lifeguards. So we are still hiring and working hard to find people to apply. We need to find some good quality lifeguards at our facilities this summer.”.
Right now the Resch Aquatic Center is the only pool that’s fully staffed.
Moeller says Colburn Pool and Joannes Aquatic Center is still in need of about 20 more lifeguards.
“We are offering some incentives and free lifeguard training. So even if someone is interested and doesn’t have the training we will get them trained.”
Without enough staff, Moeller said pool hours may have to be changed.
“Every option is still on the table, but we still have some time to figure that out. But we will not open a facility unless it’s fully staffed and safe.”
