GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Mayor Genrich and County Executive Troy Streckenbach signed a joint letter to WEC Energy group, detailing the city and county’s plans for the site of the Pulliam Power Plant.
The plan would also lead to the removal of the coal piles that have become an eyesore and a misuse of valuable property, according to State Representative David Steffen.
“The thing about riverfront property is that we are not creating any more of it,” he said. “We have this opportunity, a quarter mile of riverfront in our downtown.”
The proposal would also include state funding that Steffen says he and Senator Rob Cowles will push for. In the meantime, he wants to see all parties continue to work together.
Mayor Eric Genrich has ideas of what can be built where the coal piles currently stand.
“I think it would great to see a good deal of mixed development, some parkland, some commercial use, some housing and some light industrial as a buffer on the southern edge.”
The letter describes a framework to relocate the coal piles to the mouth of the river and construct an intermodal transportation facility.
