BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – The Brown County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a suspect of bank fraud and identity theft.
According to deputies, on May 23, Nicolet National Bank branches in Suamico, Howard, Bellevue, and Green Bay were targeted by an unknown woman and the total loss was more than $13,000.
The suspect is believed to be related to the so-called “Felony Lane Gang” style of bank fraud and identity theft that originated in South Florida, according to the sheriff’s department.
The group uses rental vehicles to keep an eye on parking lots where they try to take IDs, credit cards, and checkbooks from unattended vehicles, according to the FBI.
Deputies say in the Brown County fraud case that the victims had their cars broken into at a health club in Kaukauna and another car-break in took place in Mequon.
Preliminary information suggests other break-ins at the Kaukauna health club resulted in fraud cases throughout the state, including in Appleton, Grand Chute, Janesville, and Fond du Lac, according to the sheriff’s department.
The sheriff’s department provided a picture of the female suspect and the vehicle she was driving.
They say the vehicle used two different license plates, both of which are not listed to the vehicle.
