GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Organizers of the 2019 Bellin Run are encouraging residents, of all fitness levels, to give it a go next Saturday.
The event is set for Saturday, June 8, and is one of the largest 10K races in the nation.
Like most years, registration is already approaching the ten thousand mark with just over a week left until race day.
“As of now, we are at almost 9,300 registrants,” explains Kelly McBride Moore, event spokesperson. “That’s just about on par with what we’d expect to see normally this time of year.”
Yet, a common misconception is that serious runners only stand a chance.
Moore says the 10K starts at 8 A.M., but the time you finish it is entirely up to you.
“One-third of our participants either exclusively walk or run-walk our event each year,” she explains.
She says if your spring training has been largely neglected due to cold temps or a hectic schedule, it shouldn’t prevent you from finding a group on the course that is moving at an optimal pace for you.
And if running or walking is not an option, they always are looking for more volunteers.
“We are getting close to about six-hundred volunteers,” says McBride Moore. “We’ll probably have a couple hundred more than that.”
According to her, an event of this magnitude would never be possible without plenty of helping hands.
“Eight-hundred to a thousand volunteers really help this event be what it is,” she explains.
Volunteers can sign-up on the same website that is used for runner registration.
There’s a number of different ways in which someone can volunteer, including working at a hydration station and helping to hand out post-race food.
If you’re someone that’s still on the fence to sign-up, there’s some added financial incentive to do it sooner rather than later.
The price, which currently is $30 for registration, will bump up a few dollars at the end of the week.
“If people sign-up by midnight, Saturday, June 1, they will receive that price break and then it does go up another five dollars if you sign-up in person,” she explains.
