MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The University of Wisconsin has announced that a car accident has claimed the life of two people connected to the Men’s Basketball program.
Assistant Coach Howard Moore and his family were involved in the incident which claimed the life of his wife Jennifer and daughter Jaidyn.
Howard and his son Jerell are expected to recover from injuries suffered in the incident
Officials in Michigan say the crash involved three vehicles, including one that was going eastbound in a westbound lane. That vehicle was driven by a 23-year-old woman, who struck Moore’s vehicle head-on.
The Detroit News reports that Jennifer More was driving the vehicle and not at fault. She was taken off life support late Saturday.
“I’ve known Howard ever since he was a student-athlete at Wisconsin and gotten to know his wonderful family through the years,” director of athletics Barry Alvarez said. “He has always been an incredible representative of our athletic department and a positive influence on everyone around him. We are truly heartbroken for his family and will be doing everything possible to help him through this tragic time. Our prayers, love and support go out to the Moore and Barnes family.”
Howard has been the Assistant Coach to Greg Guard since December of 2015. Prior to that, he was Head Coach for the University of Illinois-Chicago from 2010-2015. He also served as a Badgers assistant under coach Bo Ryan from 2005-2010.
