APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – An Appleton woman who was the driver in a fatal drunk driving crash was sentenced to seven years in prison on Friday.
26-year-old Kendra Bruley pleaded no contest to a count of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle for the August 2017 crash.
According to the complaint, witnesses say that Bruley crossed across a lane of traffic and crashed into 65-year-old Stephen Gebert who was on his motorcycle, driving on Highway 15, near Hyacinth Drive in Greenville.
According to the criminal complaint, when the two collided Gebert was thrown from his cycle.
Gebert died from multiple blunt force traumatic injuries caused by the crash, according to an autopsy.
The complaint states that Bruley told officers at the scene she had three or four beers earlier that evening at two bars.
A blood test revealed Bruley’s blood alcohol content was .237, which is nearly three times the legal limit for driving.
Bruley will spend eight years on extended supervision following her time in prison.
