OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – Oshkosh Police are on the lookout for a man who has a warrant for first-degree sexual assault of a child.
The individual of concern, Andrew Hildebrand, disappeared over a week ago.
“It started on May 12, when detectives from the Oshkosh Police Department were interviewing Andrew Hildebrand about a sexual assault investigation that had occurred in the 800 block of Cherry Street,” explains Officer Kate Mann, with the Oshkosh Police Department.
Hours after that happened, he was nowhere to be found.
“Later that night, Andrew was reported to the police as missing and a welfare check was initiated,” explains Officer Mann.
Two days later, Hildebrand’s vehicle was found in Fond du Lac County by the Auburn Lake boat launch.
But, Hildebrand was not found following an aerial and ground search that was conducted.
According to police, he’s familiar with the Kettle Moraine State Forest area
Additionally, officers have reason to believe that he may be armed with a weapon.
Officer Mann says they believe he has a .22 Rifle in his possession, which means that the public needs to exercise caution in any situation involving him going forward.
“You want to always have that in the back of your mind that he may be carrying a weapon,” she explains. “So, if somebody sees him, please notify the police department.”
Law enforcement adds that Hildebrand has not made any threats to harm the public.
Also, the charge of 1st Degree Sexual Assault of a Child is merely an accusation and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Please contact the Oshkosh Police Department at (920) 236-5700 if you know of Hildebrand’s whereabouts.
If you wish to remain anonymous, call the Winnebago County Crime Stoppers at (920) 231-8477.
