BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – It was an afternoon of surprises for a local organization that is looking to pick-up-the-check for all of Green Bay K9 officer Pyro’s medical expenses.
That task got a little easier on Wednesday for Heather Heil and her team with Bark N’ Blue.
“That was the original goal,” says Heil, president of Bark N’ Blue. “To make sure that there was no expense to the Green Bay Police Department for this incident.”
PMI Entertainment Group was set to give away all the funds that were donated at their recent Pet Expo.
They decided that the money should go to support both the Brown County and Green Bay K9 Units.
At a press conference at the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Heil was expecting to receive a check for just over $600.
That money was intended to go towards covering Pyro’s medical expenses.
Heil wasn’t expecting to walk away from the event with two giant checks, though.
“I was under the understanding that we were coming today to receive a portion of the proceeds for Pyro’s recovery effort from the Pet Expo,” she explains. “But, I was surprised today by Brown County giving us their portion of the money in order to help.”
The check that the Brown County Sheriff’s Department received was for around $1,200, before gathered officers made the announcement that it was immediately changing hands and going towards Pyro’s recovery fund.
For Heil, it’s an important gesture considering the fact that they still have unanswered questions regarding the finances of Pyro’s medical costs.
“We’re not sure that Pyro’s expenses are covered at this point,” she explains. “We still have all of the money in our accounts and we have not received the bills for any of that stuff.”
Bark N’ Blue has made it known that all funds, including possible extra funds, will go towards local law enforcement K9 units.
“Not only will these donations continue to help support Pyro’s efforts in getting better, but it also will help all K9’s in Brown County,” she says.
