KESHENA, WI (WTAQ) – A woman is being charged with federal manslaughter charges following a fatal drunken driving crash on the Menominee reservation.
39-year-old Erin D. Schweitzer, a Menominee tribal member, allegedly was driving her SUV on Hwy. VV near Keshena on April 18 when she crossed the center line and hit an oncoming SUV.
The passenger in the SUV was killed, while the driver suffered broken arms and another passanger suffered a broken leg.
A blood test revealed Schweitzer’s blood alcohol content was .29 — which is more than three and a half times the legal limit for driving and she admitted to drinking throughout the day and buying malt liquor and beer at a convenience store before the crash.
Eight years in prison is the maximum sentence.
