PESHTIGO, WI (WTAQ) – Two law enforcement agencies in Marinette County are investigating messages and pictures being shared at Peshtigo Middle/High School.
Peshtigo Police Chief Rick Badgley says they are investigating sexting among student after complaints came into their department last Thursday.
The complaints indicated that sexting was occurring on cell phones and other technical devices and included an exchange of photos.
He said the photos could be considered child pornography and urged parents to be diligent and check their kid’s devices.
A conviction could include prison time of up to 25 years.
The state’s Department of Criminal Investigation is also helping out.
Peshtigo Superintendent Patrick Rau that was sent out last Friday.
“A situation occurred today at Peshtigo Middle/High School that involved a number of our students,” wrote Rau in the letter to parents. “Each of those students involved and their parents have been spoken with by administration or counselors to ensure they are safe and aware of what has happened. Law enforcement has been contacted and has begun their investigation as well. I am unable to share details of the situation, but at no time was there a threat to the safety of the students, staff, or school.”
