ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) – A burglary suspect got more than he bargained for Sunday night.
At approximately 9:30 pm, Ashwaubenon Police was dispatched for a burglary at Frost Giant Games, 2201 S. Oneida St. in the Village of Ashwaubenon.
The owner of the business, Anthony Folk, was notified that someone was inside his business.
Folk was close by and quickly responded to the store.
“I just acted on instinct,” explains Folk.
Inside he found a person wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and backpack.
The person fled the store and began running to a vehicle parked nearby.
A Concealed Carry Permit holder who was with the owner of the store held the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived.
“He pulled his gun out on him and [said] get down on the ground you’re under arrest, citizens arrest basically,” says Folk.
The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Eric Elm of Minnesota after giving police a false name.
There was $130 in cash recovered under the car that the suspect was running to.
Elm has been booked into the Brown County Jail on Burglary, Theft, Resisting/Obstructing Officers and for an Extradition Warrant out of Minnesota for Burglary.
For authorities, it was a bit of an uncommon thing to see, but nonetheless, they are happy with the outcome.
“We’re very satisfied with what happened,” says Ashwaubenon Public Safety Captain Jody Crocker. “The situation here was that the burglar could’ve gotten away.
He adds that the store employees did everything right.
“This was a felony in progress,” explains Crocker. “He also complied with officers as soon as they arrived and did everything right.”
