MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ) – Marinette County emergency teams are searching for a missing boater, but the dive team cannot search the water due to the current on the Menominee River.
A 9-1-1 call came at 10:23 Monday morning for a capsized boat and a person in the water.
The Marinette Fire Department launched a boat near Interstate Bridge and Highway 41, rescuing one person from the river.
That individual was transported to the hospital and told officials that another man was in the boat with him.
The boat was located and Jerry Sauve, Marinette County Sheriff, says the search for that missing boater continues.
“We’re trying to use side-scan sonar to find a marker on the bottom, a point of interest where we can put divers down,” he explains.
Unfortunately, the search effort has been difficult.
“But it’s so hazardous and it’s so much water coming down and the current,” he says. “We have to be real careful before we do that, that we have a real target.”
Multiple crews are involved in the search.
Since a dive team couldn’t search the water Monday, due to the current, a helicopter was out searching for the missing boater.
