APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Results of a study shows Lawrence University is vital to Appleton and the Fox Cities.
The study from independent consulting firm Appleseed focused on three main factors.
“Economic impact, our cultural influence and service.”
Lawrence President Mark Burstein says employee earnings, off-campus spending, and visitor spending is just part of the positive economic picture.
“It is slightly over $70 million dollars of yearly economic output in the Fox Cities.”
He says students and visitors account for over 1,000 jobs and service studies show that faculty, staff, and students accounted for over 10,400 hours of community volunteer work in the 2016-2017 school year.
Burstein says the employment picture was positive.
“That equates to over 1,000 jobs and a majority of those jobs are off campus.”
One of the other highlights is how the liberal arts college’s contributions to the community.
“The study helps us understand that this is a collaborative relationship between Lawrence and the Fox Cities.”
Other results from the study show that 886 Lawrence graduates live and work in the Fox Cities.
$1.44 million dollars in financial aid is provided to students from the Fox Cities.
605 faculty and staff are directly employed by Lawrence.
Nearly 1,500 children across the Fox Cities participate in the Lawrence Academy of Music.
Also on Tuesday, an Honorary Degree was presented to Cathie Tierney for her long and distinguished leadership in the Fox Cities. She has been with Community First Credit Union since 1976.
