GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – It’s an emotional time for the staff working at the Children’s Museum of Green Bay as they’re in the process of packing up exhibits and moving out to a new location.
That comes after it was announced earlier this month that the museum is moving from their downtown location to a new site across from Bay Beach Amusement Park.
Heather Heil with the Children’s Museum says it’s not easy to say good-bye.
“We spent a long journey trying to get this first building built six years ago, so there’s a lot of blood sweat and tears that went into this and it’s made a great location for us,” says Heil.
The main reason behind the move is to open up more space.
“Just as the children in our museum have grown, we’re growing and we need to grow bigger,” explains Heil. “This new space will grow with us and for the children in this community.”
The museum’s big boat and lighthouse exhibits hit the road on Tuesday.
In fact, around ninety percent of the exhibits will be relocated and they are hoping to have them moved by the end of this week.
The new site will include fifty-one free parking spaces, a new toddler area, science lab, and about 10,000 square feet of out-doors space for visitors.
All of that is on hold though until construction is completed.
“Our partnership is with Myron Construction over at the new location,” she explains. “They are working as fast as they can.”
Museum officials are happy to report that the moving timeline remains on track.
“We’re still targeting that May 17 day to open to the public,” says Heil.
