FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) – A man is facing up to 21 years in prison after he’s found guilty of using cloned credit.
Catalin-Adrian Capanu is one of two men who was arrested June 10, 2018, after a report of suspicious behavior at an ATM in Fond Du Lac.
A witness saw the two repeatedly using an ATM, and acting nervously. He called the police.
Police found 137 forged or cloned credit cards and about $7,500 in cash.
Capanu said they repeatedly used the cards at the two Marine Credit Union locations on Wisconsin American Drive and Rees St.
Fond du Lac police said the U.S. Secret Service believes the suspects are part of a nationwide Romanian organized crime ring targeting local areas by stealing credit and debit card information by using skimming devices.
Capanu returns to court July 9th for sentencing.
