APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Plans for the 7th installment of the Mile of Music in Appleton include the return of a popular venue.
Organizers announced Thursday that after a two year remodel hiatus, the Mile of Music will return to Jones Park.
“It will be the first year really that we have a chance to have all of these venues in the mix.”
Dave Willems, Executive Producer of the Mile of Music says they will open the park for two days in August.
“Some of our larger and notable artists have played Jones Park and we anticipate have 8 bands there on both Friday and Saturday. If I had to guess, they are working right up until the first part of summer. It looks like it is pretty far along, but the issue really becomes the turf.”
That means 16 shows from top artists like Appleton native Cory Chisel who will be headlining on the main stage.
“Not having Jones Park, we had a lot of people not being able to see as many artists as they wanted to see,” he said. “I have had some of my favorite performances of my life in that park so we are hoping to see as many people as we can.”
He says they have done close to 10,000 people there before.”
Organizers will also be focused on providing more grab-n-go food options so people can eat quickly while still enjoying the music.
“We are going to continue to work with some of our downtown restaurants as well as some other folks to try to make that happen.”
Willems pointed out one more change in the works.
“Family music experience which will mean a family music stage.”
The Mile of Music will be August 1 through August 4.
16 shows are scheduled to take place at Jones Park. Organizers expect nearly 1000 performances during the four-day event.
“We always have room to grow,” Chisel joked. “We can start playing on top of buildings.”
The first 50 acts were announced today.
