GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Green Bay Police Department received a special visitor Thursday afternoon.
Recovering K-9 officer Pyro stopped by for the first time since he was stabbed in an incident that took place on April 7.
The department says that his recovery continues to go well following two initial surgeries.
Pyro is able to eat solid food now that his feeding tube has been removed.
He has been resting with his handler, Officer Scott Salzmann, and his family since being released from the Animal Referral Center in Appleton this past Monday.
The man accused of stabbing Pyro, 30-year-old Sai Vang, was in court Wednesday and a competency exam was requested.
Vang faces three total charges, including a felony charge of causing injury to a police animal.
Vang repeatedly apologized for stabbing Pyro during questioning, saying “he stabbed the dog on instinct, because he is scared of dogs,” according to the complaint.
