GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Green Bay Police are asking that people be on the lookout in their neighborhood, after reports of suspicious packages being delivered to vacant homes around the city.
On March 27th, Green Bay residents living in 1100 block of Vanderbraak Street spotted a man acting suspicious, police said he was walking through people’s yard and eventually took a package from someone’s porch.
“One of the witnesses happens to see this and says what are you doing, this doesn’t look like your house because it’s vacant.”
Green Bay Lt. Rick Belanger tells FOX 11…
“In the course of the conversation it was a disturbance and the suspect threatened our victim.”
The suspect was able to get away with the package, but through their investigation, police were able to track the delivery to determine what was inside.
“To our knowledge, this was a legitimate package with legitimate items but we will never know because it was stolen.”
Belanger said there have been times in the past where people use vacant homes to deliver their drugs. Because of that, the department is using this incident to remind residents and realtors of the potential dangers.
“I think it’s a little scary for agents knowing that people have been checking out the property and knowing that there’s drug activity,’ said realtor Tracie Mooren.
Mooren tells FOX 11 she isn’t too surprised by the warning from police and her company has already taken steps to keep their properties protected.
“We are now going to be handing out our business cards around the property and checking them every three days.”
Mooren believes the best way to stop this from happening is to get neighbors involved and encourage them to report any suspicious activity to police.
“Get a good description and if they get into a car get the license plate and call us,” said Lt. Belanger.
