MANITOWOC COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Plans for a solar energy farm in Manitowoc County have been approved by state regulators.
The Two Creeks Solar Project is a combined effort between Wisconsin Public Service and Madison Gas & Electric.
The facilities will be located in the towns of Two Creeks and Two Rivers.
The 1,300-acre site is expected to generate enough power for about 41,250 homes a year.
Also approved by the state Public Service Commission was the Badger Hollow Solar Farm in southwestern Wisconsin, which is part of WPS and MG&E’s $390 million plan.
That plant is expected to produce 300 megawatts of power, which by comparison would be double the amount of the Two Creeks Project.
Some landowners near the projects have raised concerns about what the solar arrays will look like, even though the utilities have touted the green energy project.
The utilities had originally planned to start construction in Manitowoc County later this year and have it completed in 2020, but that timeline was crafted with the anticipation of PSC approval last fall.
According to WPS, it will be their first industrial-scale solar facility.
