APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – A trio of arrests have been made by Appleton Police following a shooting that stemmed from a robbery gone wrong Friday afternoon.
The incident took place in broad daylight, around 2 o’clock, in the 100 block of East Prim Rose Lane.
Officer Meghan Cash, with the Appleton Police Department, says 21-year-old Krysta Pelkey, 20-year-old Tyreece Carlisle, and 19-year-old Michael Vanhoof were all allegedly involved in the incident.
The three suspects had orchestrated the meet-up with the victim following some correspondence.
“They had planned on meeting at some point and when they did meet, at that point, they attempted to take money from him,” says Officer Cash.
According to her, their motive was simple.
“It was based on trying to rob him of what money he would have,” she explains.
It doesn’t appear that the suspects had any prior knowledge on the amount of money that the victim would have at the time.
“We believe that they were trying to take any money that he had on him and that’s why the shot was fired and why the injury to his leg was sustained,” explains Officer Cash.
The victim sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg during the incident and was taken to the hospital.
An investigation was launched immediately and eventually led to arrests on Tuesday.
Pelkey and Carlisle are facing attempted robbery and First Degree Reckless Injury charges, as they sit behind bars at the Calumet County Jail.
While officers are still looking into the role that Vanhoof played in relation to the incident.
“So until we can confirm his involvement in the entire incident he is, at this time, just confined on a probation violation,” says Officer Cash.
Vanhoof is being held at the Winnebago County Jail.
Both the Menasha and Oshkosh Police Departments assisted in the arrests.
