MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ) – A man was arrested following two explosions that went off Thursday afternoon at a home on Manitowoc’s south side.
Upon arrival, police found military grade explosives in the home of 35-year-old Victor Cota.
He appeared in court Friday afternoon for a bond hearing and no formal charges have been filed.
Cota is currently being held on a $50,000 cash bond.
Crews responded to 938 S. 29th Street after reports of two explosions, according to the police report.
A combination of ATF, FBI, a hazmat team and the state Dept. of Military Affairs all responded to the incident.
Upon arrival they found:
- RDX, a military-grade explosive
- PETN, a military and commercial explosive which requires a license to possess. Cota did not have such a license
- Three different types of improvised explosive device
Nitroglycerine, nitromethane, and scientific glassware were also found at the residence.
The report states that Cota told police he “began by making fireworks and then began collecting these as a hobby.”
Charges of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, first-degree reckless injury, and six counts of possession of an explosive are being requested by police.
