APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – The city of Appleton will soon get a parking ramp elevator up and running after it was vandalized in January.
A total of two elevators in downtown Appleton were damaged after fires were set inside by vandals.
One of the elevators in the yellow ramp will soon be open for Spring activity.
“We hope to have one of the two elevators in the yellow ramp up and running next month.”
Chad Doran, City of Appleton Communications Coordinator says they are shooting for April, which is just when downtown Appleton activity starts picking up.
“Having that elevator available for people as they start to come downtown for some of the warmer weather activities, you know, more families come out and the Building For Kids gets busy in the summertime.”
Doran says right now the situation is an inconvenience for people that have strollers that would normally use the elevator.
The other elevator will take a little longer to get up and running.
“It needs to be completely rebuilt, and we are hoping to have that one up and running possibly this fall.”
Because technology has changed, the elevators need to be rewired, but Doran says users won’t notice much change from what they are used to.
