FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) – A Fond du Lac shooting suspect was charged on Tuesday with armed robbery, first-degree reckless injury and six other counts.
An initial court appearance was set on Tuesday for 25-year-old Mohamed Elmhdati.
He allegedly shot a man in the leg on February 25 near Division Street and Lincoln Avenue before fleeing the scene.
Elmhdati is dating the mother of the victim’s child and the victim told police that Elmhdati had been receiving packages at his girlfriend’s mother’s house, according to the criminal complaint.
The victim believed the packages contained drugs and told police he set up a meeting with Elmhdati.
Elmhdati demanded a package when the victim arrived and when the victim told Elmhdati he didn’t have it, Elmhdati shot him in the leg.
According to the criminal complaint, Elmhdati told police a different version, which included that the victim had been harassing Elmhdati.
Elmhdati said he pulled out his gun to protect himself once they crossed paths.
Elmhdati told police the gun went off after the victim grabbed for it during a struggle.
He told police that he ran away because he did not think anyone would believe his story.
Court records show that he returns to court on March 15 for a preliminary hearing.
