PULASKI, WI (WTAQ) – Smurawa’s Bakery in Pulaski was closed for business Monday, but plenty of business was going on inside.
The crew spent the day preparing for their biggest day of the year, Paczki Day.
“It is the single busiest day,” Owner Greg Smurawa says. “It is is bigger than a single day of Pulaski Polka Days.”
That’s because orders for 4 dozen, 12 dozen, even 80 dozen Paczki have already been made, and that is just the start. Smurawa says it is hard to explain.
“Extensive, Impressive, Overwhelming.”
Customers get to choose from the list of flavors and their quantity. Even though Smurawa’s is done taking preorders, anyone who comes in will get what they want.
“We haven’t added any new flavors, we still are sitting at 18 and after a few years now, we feel the customers are comfortable with the varieties.”
Those flavors are Raspberry, Cherry, Strawberry, Lemon, Apple, Custard, Apricot, Blueberry, Prune, Poppy Seed, French Creme`, Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Key Lime, Cream Cheese, Red Velvet, and Pine Apple.
For Greg, business will once again be booming and the numbers sold will be impressive, but he measures success on a different scale.
“It is less and less about how many numbers that we hit and more about seeing the people every year and taking care of them, making sure everyone is pleased with what they got.”
Smurawa’s Bakery is open Tuesday from 5:30 a.m to 5:00 p.m.
