OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – At a press conference Monday afternoon, Oshkosh Police revealed that a shooting on Saturday has been determined as a murder-suicide.
They say a father turned the gun on himself after shooting his child’s mother.
Police received a call from 26-year-old Clint Jorgensen around 4 p.m. asking for medical attention to a Cherry Park Court address.
Police heard a baby crying inside when they arrived and eventually entered the residence through an unlocked door.
26-year-old Brooke Harris was found motionless at the top of the stairs inside the residence with multiple gunshot wounds.
Harris was later taken to the hospital, but died from her wounds.
Jorgensen was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and a 9-millimeter handgun was discovered next to him.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that Mr. Jorgensen and Ms. Harris had lived at the incident location together previously,” explains Oshkosh Police Chief Dean Smith. “And had a nine-month-old child in common.”
He says that the two were now living separately.
“Ms. Harris had been staying with other family members and had gone to the residence to drop off their child for Mr. Jorgensen to watch,” explains Chief Smith.
According to him, Jorgensen shot Harris after the two had gotten into an argument.
The fact that Jorgensen had recently purchased the gun used in the shooting was discovered during the investigation.
Chief Smith reiterated the truly tragic nature of this incident.
“What I do know is that there’s a nine-month-old without a mother and a father and it’s a tragedy that none of us should have to live thru,” he says.
The child is staying with family after being unharmed in the incident.
