GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The annual “State of Broadway” event on Tuesday morning showcased a number of exciting developments coming to downtown Green Bay.
The event focuses on strategic planning, looks back at what worked well the previous year, and identifies opportunities for the new year.
According to Sam Maass, program manager with On Broadway Inc., the Better Block Project on Dousman Street last year stood out as a success that they hope to build upon in 2019.
“This was an initiative to showcase what our downtown could look like if it was more bicycle and pedestrian friendly,” she says.
She says that events such as that help to determine some of the attributes that residents are looking for in a downtown experience.
“Such as having gathering spaces, and more public art, focusing on lighting and having inviting spaces,” explains Maass.
As the group looks forward to the remainder of 2019, they say the possibilities are endless.
“New businesses, new people, new growth, new living situations,” she says.
New business, growth, and people all seemingly merge together in one exciting development.
“We have the shipyard development that is going in on the south end of Broadway,” says Maass.
That development is a new headquarters for logistics technology firm Breakthrough.
Construction is expected to begin in the spring or summer, which will allow the company to move into the building in 2020.
Another promising venture is the momentum surrounding the relocation of coal piles that currently sit south of the Mason Street Bridge.
Around thirty-six-acres of riverfront property could be developed if the piles were moved elsewhere.
Lastly, Maass notes that a new digital space has been created to showcase everything.
“We are now having a website called downtowngreenbay.com, that is showcasing all of downtown Green Bay,” she says.
