GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A field of eight Green Bay mayoral candidates will be thinned down to two following Tuesday’s primary election.
The field of eight candidates are looking to replace long-time mayor Jim Schmitt.
Schmitt has held his position for the past sixteen years, but he announced this last year that he would not run for re-election.
The field of eight features Pat Buckley and Pat Evans, both Brown County Supervisors, and Eric Genrich, a former state representative.
Current alderman Mark Steuer is running, along with former aldermen Guy Zima and Joe Moore.
The field is rounded out by relative political unknowns Nick Mortensen and Paul Boucher.
While eight candidates are on the ballot, only the top two vote-getters in Tuesday’s primary election will advance to land a spot on the April 2 ballot.
All eight candidates gathered on January 9 for a mayoral forum, which was hosted by the League of Women Voters of Greater Green Bay at the Brown County Central Library.
Some of the major topics that were covered at that event included road repairs, infrastructure, economic growth in the downtown area, voting hour expansion, and public transportation.
All eight candidates also joined WTAQ’s Morning News with Matt & Earl recently to introduce themselves and their platform.
The voting polls on Tuesday open at 7 a.m. and will remain open until 8 p.m.
