SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ) – Student and Teachers were not the only ones taking a snow day Tuesday In Shawano many businesses have employees that called in due to weather.
Charlies County Market hires many teenagers to fill their staff and some just started driving.
General Manager Kelly Sufka says when winter weather hits, safety takes as a priority, causing them to juggle their staffing, and it is not uncommon for younger employees to call in on bad weather days.
“A lot of them, their parents are not going to let them drive anyway, so everything is excused when it comes to weather.”
Sufka says it usually works out since not many people choose a snowy day to do their grocery shopping, but still, the show must go on.
“If we have somebody that lives further out, we call them off before we call off the kid that lives down the street and can walk over.”
Sufka says for the grocery industry, the day before the storm is extra busy and sometimes causes them to have extra help.
