ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) – Shopko has notified the state of mass layoffs once four stores are set to close in May.
The state Department of Workforce Development released information on Wednesday that showed 61 people will be out of work when the Kimberly store closes, 56 when the Marinette store closes, 53 when the Sheboygan store closes and 48 when the De Pere store closes.
The company was required to give the state that notice and to this point, the only other notice they’ve given has been about a Madison store that is closing in April.
These closures are part of the latest round, which was announced by the retailer last week.
Shopko filed for bankruptcy last month and announced their plan to close more than 250 stores nationwide.
Closures in the month of May alone are expected to impact 578 employees at 11 locations statewide.
