ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) – Another winter storm is making its way through Wisconsin today.
National Weather Service says we’ll be seeing some more significant snowfalls on a wide swath of the state from La Crosse to Green Bay.
That could include some whiteout conditions as strong winds follow up this evening.
“That certainly will be a factor as, especially in rural areas, as the east winds become northeast and then become northwest over the next 15 to 18 hours.”
Meteorologist Jeff Last figures 9-to-13 inches of snow will fall by the time this system is gone.
And get this….70 percent of this season’s snow has come in the last 3 weeks.
“very unusual…again, probably doesn’t happen maybe once every five or ten years.”
Through January 22nd, Green Bay had seen 16.4 inches of snow.
At the time, that was running 10 inches below the normal average, and just about an inch behind last year.
But in the 20 days since then, winter has appeared with a vengeance.
Since that day, Green Bay has seen 27.6 inches of snow.
That’s 14.6 inches more than what Green Bay normally sees over that span of 20 days.
And that has really turned around this winter’s snowfall numbers.
On the season, we’re at 44 inches in Green Bay.
That’s nearly 10 inches above our normal pace through Feb. 11.
And almost twice what we had seen through this day last year.
The good news is….after this storm is done we’ll have an extended period of seasonal temps, and little snow.
