SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ) – When the city gives you snow piles, make a sledding hill.
A group of kids in one Shawano neighborhood spent their snow day Tuesday turning an eight-foot pile of snow left behind by city snow plows into a sledding hill right outside their front door.
Braden, Mckayla and Gracie Behnke did not have to go too far from home to find a day of fun. The siblings found an eight-foot snow pile left by the city plows and turned it into a sledding hill. The kids all said it was nice to be able to sled without leaving home.
Gracie says she enjoys outdoor time on her days off from school and said sledding is one of her favorite things to do.
“Because you get to go fast,” Gracie said.
With sleds and saucers in hand, the Behnke triplets joined other neighboorhood kids for winter fun.
“I like making jumps,” Braden said.
He and his friends tried to accomplish that on their makeshift hill by adding snow in areas so it would become more of a ramp which his sister Makayla took advantage of.
“I like going down the hill really fast and I like going on the ramps that we make,” Makaya commented.
Braden said he spent most of the day outside with his sisters and his neighbor friends and said that is the best way to spend an off day.
With snowy weather making travel difficult in Shawano, just a few kids ventured out to Maple Hills for a day of sledding.
Brody Schutt went sledding for the first time ever and said he was practicing for a school sledding day that is planned for this week.
“It was cold and the snow was hard,” Schutt said.
His dad Wade and the family dog just watched Brody get his first sledding experience from the top of the hill.
