GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) -The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection has released the Top 10 Consumer Complaints of 2018.
Topping the list once again was Telemarketing.
“They do this by impersonating government and utility companies and tech support companies.”
Michelle Reinen of the Consumer Protection Bureau says that made up 40 percent of the complaints.
“They use threats and intimidation trying to steal information,” Reinen said. “It has now in the last few years crept up as a tool that scam artists use.”
Telemarketing was followed by Landlord/Tenant, Telecommunications, Home Improvement, and Medical Services.
Identity Theft came in at 6, and the rest of the top ten had to do with vehicles.
“It touches most consumers lives and there are hundreds of thousands of them out there.”
Vehicle repairs, sales along with gas pumps and fuel quality rounded out the top 10.
Reinen says what you see with the list is what you get.
“I think the Top 10 list certainly reflects what we did here throughout the year.”
