GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – January 28 is known as Data Privacy Day and the Better Business Bureau says it is a good day clean up your digital footprint.
“This is a good time to do a little spring cleaning.”
With scams becoming more common and digital privacy becoming a challenge, Susan Bach of the Better Business Bureau says today is a good day look at your online presence and information stored in your accounts.
“This is a digital footprint that we probably don’t even realize is out there and this is a good day to remind people.”
Bach says that comes in the form of deleting unused apps, purging application permissions in your social media accounts and reviewing settings to see if apps have unnecessary access to your camera, GPS or mobile pay features.
“Any app that you have on your cellphone or any website that you log into and insert your personal information, maybe you created a username and password.
Bach says it is also a good day to change passwords and said a good password is important.
“That they are long and strong and that they have a combination of lower case letters uppercase letters, numbers and special characters and you should have a different password for each account.”
The Better Business Bureau says taking these steps makes someone less likely to be a victim of identity theft.
